Meaning of Shipra: My name

Shipra: A holy river flowing thru Ujjain (India).

According to Hindu mythology, taking a bath in the river Shipra during the Kumbh cleanses people of all their sins and helps them achieve salvation.

Legend has it that Ujjain was one of the four spots where drops of nectar had spilt from a pitcher (literal meaning of the word kumbh) during a fight between the gods and the demons.

Apart from mythological legends, the city has a long and distinguished history. It was governed by the likes of Vikramaditya and Ashoka. Kalidas wrote his soul stirring poetry here.
